The history of potato chip packaging is very interesting, and cans once played an important role. In the early days, potato chips were packed in tin cans and then sold at retail, but handling and transportation caused the chips to break easily, especially at the bottom
In 1926, Laura Scudder invented the wax paper bag, which was a major improvement that kept potato chips fresher for longer and less broken because the packaging was light.
From the 1920s to the 1970s, although bagging brought benefits to suppliers, it seemed that it could not satisfy consumers, who still loved cans. Because cans have a longer shelf life, some people who love potato chips can collect them
After the 1970s, manufacturers used new packaging technology, plastic bags + nitrogen. This packaging method fills the entire package with gas, which not only protects the freshness of the food, but also prevents the potato chips inside from being crushed. This is the case with the bagged potato chips we buy now.
Finally, paper cans and plastic bags coexist
Although plastic bag packaging has indeed brought potato chip packaging to a new level, as mentioned earlier, consumers are keen to buy canned potato chips because of the characteristics of cans. Even if you open them and put on the lid, they can keep fresh for a long time even if you don’t finish eating them.
If you reuse tin cans, the cost will increase; using plastic cans will pollute the environment; therefore, paper cans are the best choice. While being able to provide a wonderful cover, the food preservation characteristics are relatively stable, and the shelf life of the packaging is also very long. In this way, there are only two packaging methods on the market today: paper cans and plastic packaging bags
If a certain material is to be used for food packaging, the most important point is to ensure the safety of the food, not to let the food come into contact with the air for a long time, the packaging material meets the standard moisture content, and no foreign matter can appear in the packaging. How to do this? We have designed many tricks
1. When we cut the tube, we will dry it while cutting, so that every corner of the paper tube can be dried evenly, thereby reducing the moisture content of the paper can and shortening the production time
2. Cutting technology is also very important. We use very fine blades and increase the cutting speed. This makes the cut surface of the can very smooth and free of paper scraps
3. The main way to keep food fresh for a long time is the sealing of the can. Our paper cans use tinplate bottom sealing and 360-degree outer bends. The advantage of the 360-degree outer bend is that the packaging is more sealed
4. When the packaging is made, we will do the first UV sterilization to reduce the growth of bacteria during transportation and storage
Every change in the packaging can is an improvement in the world's packaging.
